Hornet Field Dedication Ceremony: renamed in honor of Professor Emeritus & Coach Edwin C. Daub.

SUNY Broome Community College and the Foundation will host a ceremony to rename and dedicate the Hornet Baseball Field on Saturday, April 29, at approximately 2:30 pm.

The ceremony will be held on the field between the Hornets double-header baseball games. The field will be renamed the Edwin C. Daub Field in memory of SUNY Broome Professor Emeritus and Coach Edwin C. Daub, who passed away in June 2022.

In 1963, Professor Daub accepted a position at Broome Community College. For the next 59 years, Daub served as a physical education professor and a respected athletics coach, coaching championship teams in baseball and soccer at the college.

He also dedicated 20 years as a professional baseball scout for the Cincinnati Reds in the New York and northern PA area, retiring in 2019. In 2022, he self-published a book entitled “The Last Season” which takes readers inside the world of professional baseball scouting.

His tenacity and dedication influenced many students and athletes. His family recently established a scholarship fund in his memory for students at SUNY Broome who intend to transfer to SUNY Cortland and pursue a career in teaching and physical education.

The ceremony will feature remarks from the Daub family, SUNY Broome President, Dr. Kevin E. Drumm, Director of Athletics, Colleen Cashman, and Joe Hein, an alumnus who played baseball on Coach Daub’s 1976 team.
