SUNY Broome swept Tompkins Cortland CC
Broome swept Tompkins Cortland CC Wednesday afternoon in their home opener at the Bearcats Sports Complex, taking game one 18-5 and game two 13-3. The Hornets put up 28 hits in the doubleheader including Alana Espinoza’s first collegiate home run to go with her first collegiate win in the circle.

In the opening game Brianna Ramstine paced the Hornets at the plate with four hits including two doubles and Keira Warwick followed with a three hit performance. Logan Ives and Lauren Simmons had two hits apiece while Leah Carlini, Jenna Gaisford and Carly Kirtland chipped in with a hit each. Gaisford picked up the win, going the distance and striking out seven while walking one.

The second game saw the Panthers jump on Espinoza for 3 runs in the bottom of the first before settling down to hold the Panthers scoreless in the final four frames. Ives turned in a defensive gem from second base to help keep the visitors scoreless when, what appeared to be a hit, she backhanded the ball deep in the gap and flipped it out of her glove to first for the out. All starting players picked up hits in the game including multi-hit performances from Ramstine, Espinoza, Carlini, Warwick, McKenna Beers and Ives. Carlini continued to do well at the plate, hitting another triple. Espinoza picked up the win after the shaky start, striking out ten and walking one..

Broome is back at the Bearcat Sports Complex Monday afternoon at 3:00 pm for a doubleheader against Herkimer College in a game that was postponed back on April 3.
