SUNY Broome Hornets play Tompkins Cortland CC in Dryden

The softball team’s bats came alive in the sweep of Tompkins Cortland CC in Dryden on Monday afternoon, defeating the Panthers by a score of 19-2 in game one and 24-3 in the nightcap. The doubleheader saw the Hornets score 43 runs on 28 hits, 10 of those hits coming by way of doubles and 1 of those hits a grand slam.

Game one started out strong for Broome as they plated seven runs in the top of the first and never looked back, scoring in every inning thereafter. Jessica Baron had a monster game for the Hornets, the second baseman went 4-4 at the plate including three doubles and six RBIs. Brianna Ramstine, Jacqualine Bigelow and Leah Carlini each drove in 3 runs as well as joining Baron in the double column. Bigelow went 3-4 in the game followed by Brooke Ladd, Carlini and Ramstine with two hits each. Jenna Gaisford went the distance in the circle for the visitors, the righty gave up two runs on three hits while striking out five and walking four.

Game two saw the Panthers strike first with a run in the top of the first only to be answered by the Hornets with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Baron had another six RBI game, going 2-4 at the plate, both doubles. Ramstine led Broome with eight RBIs in the game including a grand slam. In addition to her four bagger Ramstine posted a double along with Bigelow. Logan Ives, Lauren Simmons and Ellen Buckley all came off the bench and singled in their only at bats. Keira Warwick got the nod in the circle and also went the distance, the Chenango Valley grad gave up three runs on three hits while striking out seven and walking only one.
