Jenna Gaisford pitched well through the first six innings.

The softball team dropped both games of their doubleheader against Monroe CC on Saturday at the BU Bearcat Softball Complex, dropping game one 12-3 and game two 4-3.

Jenna Gaisford pitched well through the first six innings, giving up three earned runs and down one run, 4-3. The Tribunes exploded for an eight run seventh inning to put the game out of reach for the Hornets. After everything was said and done, Monroe posted 20 hits with seven of them coming in the top of the seventh and Broome tallied seven, three off them off the bat of Brianna Ramstine. McKenna Beers, Leah Carlini, Keira Warwick and Lauren Simmons all had one hit each. Gaisford went the first six and Warwick finished the last inning.

Game two saw both Monroe and Broome put up one run apiece in both the third and fourth inning for the 2-2 tie. Ramstine put the Hornets on the board first with a solo shot over the right center fence. The Tribunes scored two more in the bottom of the first but the Hornets could only come up with one more run off a sacrifice fly from Carlini to drive in Beers who made it to third base on a pass ball. The Hornet bats were mostly silent, posting two hits in the contest, Ramstine’s solo homerun in the third and Beers’ single in the sixth. Alana Espinoza went the distance in the circle, giving up three earned runs and striking out six.

Broome fell to 9-17 with the loss and Monroe improved to 16-11.
