SUNY Broome Softball at BAGSAI for a doubleheader against Hudson Valley CC

The softball team finally got on the field Tuesday afternoon at BAGSAI for a doubleheader against Hudson Valley CC, falling 9-0 in the opener and 16-0 in the second game.

Game one started out strong for the Hornets with Keira Warwick facing just three Vikings in the first inning thanks to a nifty double play to get the inning started by Brooke Ladd at third to Leah Carlini to Marrissa Rogers. Brianna Ramstine led off for the home team with a walk and reached second on a steal before the next three batters went down swinging, stranding Ramstine at second. Warwick gave up a run in the second inning via a two-out double to drive a Viking across the plate. With runners on the corners and two outs, Ramstine gunned down a Viking stealing second to end the inning. Broome struggled at the plate all game with only Ramstine reaching base, both on walks, while Hudson Valley’s bats came alive in the fourth inning. Shealynne Peckowitz threw a no-hitter for the win while Warwick picked up the loss for Broome.

Jenna Gaisford started game two on the mound for the Hornets but the story was much the same, Broome bats were silent and the Viking bats remained hot. Kaitlyn Andrews had the lone hit in the game when she beat out a ground ball to the second baseman. Andrews came in to relieve Gaisford in the third inning to try and quiet the visitors bats but the results were the same. Miranda Peck earned the win for Hudson Valley while Gaisford picked up the loss.

Weather permitting, Broome will travel to Dryden this Thursday for a doubleheader against Tompkins Cortland CC beginning at 3:00 pm.
