SUNY Broome women's soccer team traveled to Rochester for a match under the lights against the St John Fisher JV team

The women’s soccer team traveled to Rochester for a match under the lights against the St John Fisher JV team on Tuesday evening and played the Cardinals to a 1-1 tie.

The game was a battle from the beginning with back and forth play from both sides and neither team able to capitalize on their chances. Dana Stepp hit the crossbar twice for the Hornets and goal keeper Carly Hein made two excellent saves to keep the game even at 0-0 going into halftime.

The second half started as the first ended with back and forth play and several near misses until, at the 63:16 mark, Stepp found the back of the net from just outside the 18 yard line courtesy of an assist by Alisa Cherednichenko. The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Hornets until the Cardinals found the equalizer off a well-placed corner kick. Broome is now 5-1-1 overall and 3-0 in MSAC play.

Next up for the Hornets is a home match against Herkimer College on Saturday scheduled for a 1:00 pm start followed by a trip to Fulton Montgomery CC on Sunday, also with a 1:00 pm start.
