SUNY Broome women's soccer team earned their third shutout of the season with a convincing 7-0 win on Saturday against Jamestown CC

The women’s soccer team earned their third shutout of the season with a convincing 7-0 win on Saturday against Jamestown CC at Alumni Field. The Jayhawks came into the match undermanned and played an incredible first half against the Hornets to go into the locker room tied at 0-0 despite the host team holding a 24-0 advantage on shots and a 5-0 advantage on corner kicks.

It took just under two minutes in the second half for Broome to score the winning goal. Arianna Michitti beat her defenders and slipped a shot by the Jamestown keeper, Jolize Beukman into the lower right corner of the net to start a flurry of goals over the next seven minutes. Avery Kenyon scored the next goal at the 48:55 mark, in what is arguably the most impressive shot all year when she took a Dana Stepp cross out of mid air and connected on a semi bicycle kick that ripped the net. Stepp got her own goal at 51:04 when she finished a slick cross and continuation from Kenyon and Quinn Miller. Only seconds later Mariella Michitti came from her defensive position and blasted a shot past the Jayhawk keeper for her first of two goals in the half. Ella Stafford scored in the 72nd minute courtesy of an assist from A. Michitti followed by a corner kick from Stafford to Alisa Cherednichenko smashed a header by the Jayhawks at the 78:12 mark. M. Michitti finished the scoring at 84:12 when she placed another assist by Kenyon into the back of the net.

Broome outshot Jamestown 45-0 and held an 8-0 advantage on corner kicks in the match. The Hornets improved to 4-1-0 while the Jayhawks fell to 0-5-0 on the season.

Up next is another home contest for the Hornets against Finger Lakes CC next Sunday beginning at 1:00 pm.
