The women’s soccer team earned a 3-0 shutout on Columbus Day against North Country CC in Saranac Lake to improve to 9-1-1 heading into the last week of the regular season.
After a hard fought, back and forth first twenty three minutes, the Hornets broke through as Dana Stepp delivered the winning goal from an assist by Arianna Michitti on through ball from 20 yards out just over the outstretched hands of the Saints goalkeeper. Just a little over two minutes later Quinn Miller got her third goal in two games by finishing a cross from A. Michitti. Again, just a little over two minutes later and another assist from Michitti, Avery Kenyon got the Hornets’ third goal off a perfectly placed cross.
The second half was more of the same with back and forth play but neither team was able to capitalize on their chances. Goalkeeper Carly Hein made two key saves to preserve the shutout and defenders Grace Cawley, Jenna Albin, Mariella Michitti, Abby Lyon, Ella Stafford, and Abbey Augur proved to be the difference in the match.
Broome will host Tompkins Cortland CC in their last regular season game this Wednesday, scheduled for a 2:00 pm kickoff.
