The SUNY Broome men' soccer team picked up a road win in Saranac Lake

The men’ soccer team picked up a road win in Saranac Lake on Sunday in a Region III match by defeating North Country CC 6-1. After starting out the season 0-3 the Hornets’ grit and determination in the match got them the win against the Saints.

Nathaniel Wojcik and Aaron Salisbury each tallied two goals in the win. Wojcik started the scoring in the 13th minute from a PK. During a four minute span Broome found the back of the net three times starting in the 33rd minute and ending in the 37th. The first came off the foot of Salisbury, courtesy of an assist from Angelo Mitchell, followed by Wojcik’s second goal then John Serafini, giving the visitors a 4-1 lead heading into the half. The Saints’ Mack Oakes-Lazare put the home team on the board with just 3o seconds left in the half. Yuri Brich got in on the scoring with goal coming from a set piece 30 yards out finding the top of the net. Salisbury picked up his second goal in the 88th minute for the final goal of the match.

The Hornets secured the win thanks in part to the defensive efforts of Andrew Buckler, Owen Moretin, Peter Kiuber, Nicholas Ragonese and Daniel Martinez. Dean Patterson earned his second start for his second win of the year, notching 4 saves while conceding the lone goal from North Country. The Hornets improved to 2-3 on the year while the Saints fell to 0-4.

Broome returns to Alumni Field this Wednesday for a MSAC match against Onondaga CC scheduled to start at 4:00 pm.
