SUNY Broome Women's Soccer against Genesee CC

Broome held a 1-0 lead against Genesee CC for nearly 80 minutes before giving up the game-tying goal in the North District B Region III DIII Championship match played in Batavia on Saturday. Nine minutes later the Cougars struck again with the winning goal, both off the foot of Chloe Barrett and both unassisted.

In the evenly played 90 minute match the Hornets and the Cougars ended the contest almost dead even in the statistical category. With neither team dominating the time of possession, Genesee held a 13-10 advantage in shots, Broome bested Genesee in shots on goal 9-8, and both teams had 4 corner kicks.

The back and forth, and at times tense contest, saw the Hornets take the lead 5:20 into the match from an Ella Stafford corner kick that was cleanly finished by Briana McQuade scoring her first goal in her second game back from a long layoff. With the game seemingly headed into OT, and 1:12 left on the clock, the Cougars were awarded a free kick at the top of the 18 yard box for the 2-1 final.

Briana McQuade and Arianna Michitti were named to the All Tournament Team for their efforts in the game.

The Hornets ended the season with a record of 11-3-1.
