Program Review: Turning Data into Action
What is Academic Program Review?
Academic program review at SUNY Broome is a process in which faculty of academic programs engage in a thorough assessment of the program, with the goal of ensuring continuous improvement. The program review cycle is every five years, with faculty working on Annual Action Plan Updates in between, to report on progress towards achieving goals established during their Program Review.
A Comprehensive Look at Our Programs
As part of the program review process, faculty utilize a template to conduct an assessment of the curriculum, resources, alignment of the program with labor market and/or transfer needs, faculty professional development, the admissions and advising process for students within the program, and the student supports in place to help the program be successful. A critical analysis of student demographic and success data, including enrollment, retention, graduation, DFW rates, and earned credit hours also occurs, providing faculty and deans with the information they need to develop actionable goals to address gaps and enhance areas of strength.
From Data to Action: Program Review gives faculty and deans an opportunity to use evidence to celebrate strengths, identify areas for improvement, and establish actionable goals.
Program Review in Action
Program Review has helped programs at SUNY Broome identify and implement meaningful changes. Programs at the College have used assessment findings from this process to inform resource requests such as new equipment and spaces; curricular revisions to Program Learning Outcomes and courses; obtain new transfer agreements with external reviewers; develop new courses informed by labor market data; and create new partnerships with community organizations and other Colleges.
