Professional Development at SUNY Broome

I am not counting this as a week for actual PD stuff, but I did want to take the opportunity to share my best wishes for a safe, happy, and healthy Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you for your encouragement, feedback, and kindness related to this slice of your weekly institutional email pie (mmm, pie). I am toying with the format for what this will look like next semester (a weekly is a commitment, ya’ll) and I will be including a survey in one of the last installments for the semester to get some feedback related to that. As always, malmbergsm@sunybroome.edu and professionaldevelopment@sunybroome.edu are how you can communicate anything with us.

A story about my family: prior to Covid, we went to see a film every Thanksgiving (Sidesgiving in my house of vegetarians, but I digress) since my twins were old enough to go to the theatre without annoying other patrons too much. Last year, we weren’t able to go obviously, and the year before that, there wasn’t a single film any of us were excited to see, so for the first time in ages we stayed home, opting to watch every episode of The Mandalorian in our pajamas. This year, however, it’s back to traditions and the movie theatre for the first time since late 2019. We are BIG fans of the Ghostbusters films (see photo), and we are going to see Ghostbusters: Afterlife before we feast on Thursday. What are some of your favorite traditions that you are looking forward to doing again? What new traditions might have emerged as a result of necessary changes to how we safely gather?
