SUNY Broome Overwatch Makes Playoffs!!

Hornets’ eSports Secures Playoff Spot!!

SUNY Broome Overwatch secured a playoff spot, after defeating Alexandria Technical & Community College (Alexandria, MN) on Monday, 3-1-2021.

According to their Coach, Nigel Deakin, the Hornets’ captains, Lynnette Linares and Quentin Riedman, really had to step up. Due to game regulations, the two of them had to work directly with their coaches to pinpoint and work on the strengths of their teammates to make sure they had perfect compositions and strategies for every game. Between watching streams of other schools before the games, doing one-on-one practices with the players, and solidifying their approaches to each map, they put it together to win some crucial matches. The Hornets have learned to communicate so much better since the start of the season, and the change in organization and strategy skills is what got them into the playoffs. “Every team we faced had some of the best players we’ve seen so far, but the Hornets brought everything they learned this season together to take them down time and again, ultimately securing their playoff spot,” says Coach Deakin.

Playoffs will be the top 8 teams from the league, currently out of 26. With their 6-2 record, the Hornets are set at 8th place. The structure for the playoff tournament hasn’t been officially released. They will find out more information on April 12th.
