Melissa Martin, Counselor and Chairperson of Counseling Services at SUNY Broome, recently served as an expert interviewee in an article published by The New York Times devoted to the subject of mental health in the college setting. Martin shared her pro-tips on how to healthily  emotionally prepare for the upcoming fall semester. 

Martin, a licensed social worker, has been supporting SUNY Broome students through individual and group counseling sessions since 2012. She was awarded the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service in 2019. 

Martin encourages new and returning students to connect with the College’s Counseling Services Department as early as possible to become acquainted with the services offered. (Student appointments begin as early as August 1, 2022). She and her team host special events and information sessions throughout the academic year.
