A lesson plan and related materials on Interpreting AI in the News have been added to the Information Literacy Faculty Toolkit.

Aspen Digital recently released a lesson plan and related materials on “Interpreting AI in the News.” This work is licensed as OER so that it can be used, modified and redistributed. The Aspen Digital web page explains Interpreting AI in the News:

“Media coverage of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) often fails to distinguish between hype and reality. This results in public misconceptions that can fuel unnecessary fears or unrealistic hopes.

The “Interpreting AI in the News” lesson plan teaches students how to recognize and critically interpret how writing choices impact readers’ perceptions of how AI works, what it can be used to do, and who is using it.”

The plan includes:
Interpreting AI in the News – Lesson Plan
Interpreting AI in the News – What to look for
Interpreting AI in the News – Vocabulary
Interpreting AI in the News – Assessment
Talk Better About AI example sentence

Also included is AI 101, a nontechnical primer addressing common questions people have about artificial intelligence.

Faculty seeking to incorporate information literacy into their curriculum are invited to collaborate with Library Instruction Coordinator Paul Bond(bondph@sunybroome.edu) or their designated liaison librarian.
