Every year, SUNY Broome has the opportunity to honor and recognize some of our most distinguished students by nominating them for the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. It is the highest honor bestowed upon a student by the State University of New York (SUNY).
Campus Nomination Eligibility:
- Only students graduating with a degree between June 2020 and May 2021 can be considered.
- General Award Nominations are being sought for students enrolled at SUNY Broome who have best demonstrated the integration of SUNY excellence within many aspects of their lives, which MUST INCLUDE three of the following areas: Academic Excellence, Leadership, Campus Involvement, Community Service, or the Arts (creative performing).
- Special Award Nominations are NEW this year. A Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence: Special Award will be awarded to ONE student system-wide for EACH of the following categories: Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Military, Special Service (COVID-19), or Overcoming the Odds. Students must be nominated separately for this category of awards.
Campus Nomination Process:
- Any SUNY Broome faculty or staff may nominate a student, or a student may self-nominate by downloading and completing the Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence: 2020-2021 Nomination Form.
- Completed Nomination Forms must be submitted via email to dos@sunybroome.edu by 12 Noon, Jan. 15, 2021.
- A Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence (CASE) committee of campus representatives, including students, will review each nomination and select (1) up to THREE nominees who will be recommended to SUNY as finalists for the General Awards; and (2) up to ONE nominee who will be recommended to SUNY as a finalist for the Special Award. (The same student can be nominated for a general and special award, but it is not necessary.)
- After selecting campus nominees, the CASE committee will work with each student finalist to complete the SUNY Nomination Application, which is due to SUNY by Jan. 31, 2021. This application must include a personalized letter of recommendation signed by our campus president, Dr. Drumm.

Award Recognition: The 2021 Award Ceremony will be held virtually April 14, 2021 at 2:00 pm. Successful candidates, their families, and campus presidents or their designees will be invited to join the award ceremony online.
