Dejon Williams led SUNY Broome in scoring with 15 points in the 76-65 season-opening win over Luzerne County CC on Saturday.

The men’s basketball team won its home opener 76-65 over Luzerne County CC on Saturday behind three players in double figures.

Dejon Williams led the Hornets with 15 points while Xavier Thomas-Davis added 14 and Wyeth Lamont scored 11 off the SUNY Broome bench.

Williams added seven rebounds and three assists while Thomas-Davis secured a double-double with 10 rebounds. Isaiah Sanders and Braeden Davis combined for another 18 points while Tyrell Davender added six points and eight rebounds off the bench. Thon Chol collected seven rebounds in the win.

The Hornets outshot the Trailblazers from the field (42.6% to 39.0%) and the free throw line (76.5% to 61.9%), in addition to collecting 28 more rebounds and logging more assists and steals.

The win marked Eric Edwards’ first victory as Head Coach of the Hornets and his first career win as a Head Coach at the collegiate level.

SUNY Broome will be back in action on Wednesday in its first NJCAA Region 3 and Mid-State Athletic Conference (MSAC) matchup of the season at Cayuga CC.
