Jallissa N. Elias, Director of Housing and Residential Life

By Kerry Gallagher

SUNY Broome is pleased to introduce Jallissa N. Elias as our new Director of Housing and Residential Life! In her new role, she will oversee the Student Village, SUNY Broome’s on-campus, apartment-style student housing facility.

Elias began her own college journey at a community college, where she earned an Associate of Science degree. She has been a dedicated higher education professional for more than 15 years, with a career that includes work in Admissions and service as an ambassador for prospective student-athletes. She later earned her master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs Leadership from the University of Northern Colorado.

Originally from Denver, an opportunity at Cornell University originally brought Elias to New York State. As a Residence Hall Director, she supported the physical and mental well being of 400 residents, and organized programmatic efforts for diverse student populations. She has also served in roles with the Ithaca Public Education Initiative (IPEI) and Ithaca City School District. Connecting with Racquel Smith, Organizational and College Culture Officer, and Dr. Carol Ross-Scott, Vice President for Student Development & Chief Diversity Officer, at a community event last spring eventually brought her to SUNY Broome!

Elias brings her lived experience as a proud first-generation college graduate, a mother, and a community curator. She is excited to contribute to the transformational journey of our Student Village residents and help foster a vibrant sense of belonging. Please join us in warmly welcoming her to our campus community!
