Manufacturer's Open House - Industry Led Instructional Design SUNY Broome Campus September 17, 2024 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.

On September 17, SUNY Broome Workforce Development welcomed 21 representatives from 14 local companies to the 2024 Manufacturers’ Open House. The event was designed to develop beneficial partnerships with local manufacturers and ensure industry support for development of Broome’s programs and courses. Said SUNY Broome Workforce Development Director Danielle Britton, “We’re delighted that we hit the mark for both goals, bringing local manufacturing leaders together to discuss how to grow a strong workforce. Our guests were pleased that Broome’s technology program enrollment is increasing, and our focus now is to continue the conversation and combine efforts with our industry partners to further enhance this growth.”

Attendees began with a tour of the campus’ alternative energy, mechanical, and manufacturing laboratories, followed by ice cream made in SUNY Broome’s food lab. Participants then took part in a facilitated conversation about how SUNY Broome can best support local manufacturers’ efforts. The group discussed challenges in retaining and attracting talent, specific skills and competencies needed in work environments, how to actively enhance partnerships, and local manufacturers’ familiarity with Broome’s offerings. These topics are at the heart of SUNY Broome’s vision statement: “Transforming futures, creating opportunity: Be Your Best at Broome.”

Special thanks to Broome’s partners at the Alliance for Manufacturing and Technology for facilitating event discussions, as well as other campus departments that supported this special event.
