LIMINAL SPACES: a visual memoir, Roberson Museum's first museum-wide solo exhibition by Rich Harrington; Opening Reception Saturday, June 14 from noon-4 pm.

A new solo exhibition by artist/pop culture excavator Rich Harrington is opening at Roberson Museum this June. Installed throughout the entire Roberson campus, including the Roberson Mansion, Harrington’s expansive body of work transforms familiar objects into metaphoric liminal spaces that explore the origins of identity within the context of school, play, and pop culture. His installations challenge visitors to reflect on how identity is formed and shaped through these shared cultural experiences.

“The term liminal spaces represents periods of significant life change or transition. They can be associated with emotional states of ambiguity, uncertainty and the potential for growth or change. Feelings of isolation, detachment, uncertainty and fear along with humor and playful exuberance are evident in the work. Familiar materials and imagery draw the audience into a world of the familiar, but upon close inspection, the world implied is turned inside out by the reassignment of text and labeling, reflecting a current awareness of the fluid, multi-layered process of self-identification and acceptance.”
