The Employee Summer Celebration marked the first of many events scheduled for this upcoming academic year to honor SUNY Broome Community College’s 75th anniversary. Hosted by President Dr. Kevin Drumm and the Foundation, employees were invited to gather on the Quad for a celebratory picnic, live music, and games. Well over 100 employees from across campus excitedly accepted the invitation to reconnect.
SUNY Broome’s Special Events Coordinator, Justine Dadamio, felt that the Employee Summer Celebration was the perfect opportunity to set the tone for a year of 75th anniversary festivities. “We couldn’t have picked a more beautiful day to gather everyone outside for a picnic to officially welcome many of our employees back to campus after months of working remotely. This academic year will be a truly special one. Our goal is to fill the calendar with 75th anniversary special events for our students, faculty and staff, alumni, and the community,” she said.
Between the hours of 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., the Quad was filled with the sounds of beautiful music, thanks to our alum performer, Brittany Rose, and the buzz of colleagues happily reconnecting.
When employees weren’t visiting the ice cream truck or playing lawn games, they had the opportunity to participate in a SUNY Broome themed trivia contest, emceed by Dr. Penny Haynes.
Colleagues were genuinely excited to see one another in such a relaxed and celebratory setting.
Lorie Brewer, Learning Specialist, used her time in the lunchline to introduce colleagues to one another who had yet to meet due to the pandemic. “I’m happy to see so many friendly faces on campus,” she said.
Professor Robert Lofthouse, Chairperson of Engineering Science & Physics, was thrilled to be back on campus to collaborate with his colleagues. “I am looking forward to our new normal. The best part of today was that I was able to have some of those little conversations where ideas are traded. Those conversations always turn into plans to make great opportunities for our students,” he said.
Fermin Romero, Interim Director of Information Technology Services, noted the significance of SUNY Broome’s history. “I am excited to be part of the 75th anniversary of our institution. It really is something special to be a part of,” he said.
