The campus is saddened to learn of the passing of long time adjunct, John McCallen on January 26, 2021. John was a member of the Engineering Science, Physics and Physical Sciences Department.
John left the college after the Fall 2019 semester to move closer to family and to enjoy his retired years. He looked forward to pursuing many hobbies. He was inspirational in the teaching and development of the Natural Disasters course, which he helped create. John enjoyed conversations with faculty about disaster films and when two major disasters occurred, Hurricane Katrina and the Indian Ocean Tsunami, he and Kennie Leet knew students would want to learn more about these disasters and the science behind them. The Natural Disasters course began the next year and continues to this day.
