SUNY Broome mourns the sudden loss of one of its great champions, Margaret Turna. Margaret was a dedicated SUNY Broome Foundation Board member. While serving as Foundation Board President, one of her significant accomplishments was helping SUNY Broome become a residential campus by constructing the Student Village. She helped launch the BCC Housing Development Corporation, served as its president, and remained on both the Foundation and Housing boards until her passing.
In addition to her involvement with the Foundation, Margaret was a retired Adjunct Instructor from SUNY Broome’s Business department.
Margaret faithfully served on the Town of Chenango Board and was the Town of Chenango Supervisor for a time. A more complete view of her personality, life, professional accomplishments, and her efforts in the community can be found in her obituary.
On a personal note from the Foundation, Margaret is remembered as an incredibly strong and deeply kind woman. A role model of resiliency, steadiness, and leadership, she dedicated much of her life to community service. No matter the challenge, she brought her talent and wisdom to bear without any pretentiousness. Margaret, a generous person who gave faithfully to a SUNY Broome scholarship in memory of her late son, genuinely cared about the success of both our college and students. Her guidance and presence will be very deeply missed.
Margaret’s obituary provides information on her funeral mass on Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, and visitation hours. Instead of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Foundation for the John P. Turna III Memorial Scholarship.
