Completing Gateway Math in the 1st Academic Year Substantially Increases 2-Year Grad Rates
Among New First-Time, Full-Time students, those who completed Gateway Math in their first year graduated within two years at consistently higher rates than those who did not. Two-year graduation rates for Gateway Math completers have been between 24-30% between the years of 2018 and 2023. The data shows much lower graduation rates for students who do not complete a Gateway Math course within their first year. Only between 8-11% of SUNY Broome students graduated within two years if they did not complete a Gateway Math course within their first academic year.
Completion of a Gateway Math course within the first year is one of the Key Performance Indicators for the College’s Academic Momentum Plan. Even more importantly, the data clearly shows that students at SUNY Broome who complete a Gateway Math course within their first year are much more likely to graduate within two years than those who do not.
