Family Empowerment: Stronger Families, Brighter Futures

Hello,

My name is LaToya Warren & I am the Intervention Specialist for SUNY Broome’s new Family Empowerment Program. I am reaching out to single-parent students here on campus to tell you all about the program. Our goal is to help our single-parent students overcome the daily challenges of balancing school, work & home life responsibilities all while being a single-parent to ensure that you guys remain in school, achieve academic success and complete your degrees.

We help connect single-parent students to on-campus & community based resources to fulfill any unmet need that may prevent degree completion or cause students to withdraw from school. We offer free/reduced on campus childcare (based on availability), intensive personalized advisement, facilitated support groups, parenting classes, & academic supports such as: tutoring, study groups, career counseling and transfer assistance.

I myself, was a single-parent student and know firsthand the obstacles standing between parenting and degree completion and just last year, against all odds, I earned a Master’s Degree. So I am ever so excited to be in a position where I get to help support other single-parent students through their higher educational journeys.

In light of the recent COVID-19 pandemic we understand that there is a lot of uncertainty looming around traditional school processes and we are here to help you navigate through those uncertainties as well.

This program is a non-judgmental safe place for participants to receive the support they need to stay in school and earn their degrees. If you are interested in joining or know someone who could benefit from participating in the program please feel free to contact me at +1 (607) 725-9089 or warrenls@sunybroome.edu. It will be my pleasure discuss the program in greater detail.
