Our library whiteboard question has been, “What can you do to be civically engaged after the election?”

We were impressed that people weren’t shy about responding, as the board filled up more quickly than usual. While a few responses recommended giving up, many more had positive suggestions. There were calls for community engagement through volunteering or local government. Even more people advocated for engagement on an interpersonal level, as empathy was a significant theme. The campus has a range of ideas about what constitutes civic engagement. Perhaps the most creative approach recommended was to “Become a witch.” There were also calls for media and information literacy in the form of “Keep paying attention and thinking critically” and “Read the news,” which leads to our next whiteboard question, “How do you keep up with the news?”
