Christmas treeThe SUNY Performing Arts Department presents its College Choir in a concert of “Holiday Music – Ancient and Modern” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, in the Sanctuary of Vestal United Methodist Church, 328 Main St., Vestal.
Directed by James Gleason, the choir will present two very different settings of a Christmas Mass. One, composed in 1694, is the Messe de Minuit pour Noël (Midnight Mass for Christmas) based on ancient French Christmas carols, by Marc-Antoine Charpentier (163? – 1704). This work will be accompanied by orchestra, soloists, two recorders and feature Dan Rosenau on the pipe organ.
The other Christmas Mass was composed in 2014: The Little Jazz Mass by Bob Chilcott. This work will be accompanied by Jazz Combo and feature Mike Dubaniewicz on saxophone.
The concert will also feature several “lesser known” holiday carols.
Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door. All students will be admitted free.
