Conner Smith and Aja Jackson both placed in the top five at the 2022 NJCAA XC National Championship on Saturday in Holyoke, MA. Smith came in 4th with a time of 27:04.55 in the Men’s 8K and Jackson ran the Women’s 5K in 19:43.79, good enough for a 5th place finish.
Smith led the way with his 4th place finish, the highest placing in the national meet for a Broome man ever, surpassing the 6th place finish of Jeff Smith back in 2008. His effort, along with Jakob Getchell’s 9th place finish helped Broome repeat their 4th place finish from just one year ago. Getchell ran a personal best 27:26.37 in the 8K, earning him 2nd Team All-American status while Smith’s finish earned him a spot on the 1st Team All-American team. Also finishing in the field of 157 runners were Lucas Baker (33), Riley Transue (51), Eric DeHart (69), James McDonald (111) and Benjamin Dizer (145).
Jackson’s 5th place finish earned her 1st Team All-American honors in the field of 93 runners. Claudia Chermak capped off her running career at Broome with a personal best time of 21:27.30.
