Convocation Day

Convocation Day Is Tuesday, April 20, 2021

  • Check the Convocation website and schedule of events.
  • No classes are scheduled for day or evening per the shared governance and administration-approved academic calendar
  • Our keynote speaker is Bruce Monger, acclaimed oceanographer, Cornell University scientist and climate change expert
  • Dr. Bruce Monger is highly regarded for his insights about climate change and how it may effect the planet’s future
    Dr. Monger is passionate about explaining how we can make a difference in our planet’s future and teaches the largest, most popular course at Cornell University
  • Dr. Monger will offer a keynote address at 10:00 am via Zoom.
    Dr. Monger will offer a Q and A session beginning at 11:00 am via Zoom.
  • Faculty from different academic divisions on campus will offer afternoon workshops (12:15 pm – 1:15 pm) via Zoom related to important issues that connect to the themes of Convocation 2021 which is about considering how climate change affects our lives, future careers and local environment
  • There will be an afternoon film screening of Battleground Everglades at 1:30 pm via Zoom.
  • Teaching Faculty who wish to be recognized and certified as 2021 Convocation Faculty Scholars should register their plans to engage students in Convocation Day at sunybroome.edu/convocation by March 25, 2021 by Noon.
  • SUNY Broome students may be required by Teaching Faculty to attend Convocation Day activities and they may also be eligible to earn extra-credit for doing so. Students should check with their professors about this possibility
    SUNY Broome students will benefit from attending Convocation Day activities as a form of para-professional development
  • Dr. Monger’s keynote address on Climate Change: The Extraordinary Challenge This Generation is Called Upon to Solve will benefit students in all fields who can note their attendance at this talk in job interviews, resumes as well as scholarship and transfer applications
  • Convocation Day is the largest annual gathering of students and faculty that takes place on the SUNY Broome virtual campus. Don’t miss it!
