Holly FarwellHolly Farwell, MSN, RN, CCRN and Assistant Professor of Nursing, was awarded a SUNY Nursing Simulation Fellowship. Over 30 nursing faculty from SUNY colleges and universities applied for this inaugural fellowship, and Professor Farwell was one of the 12 selected for the inaugural class of the SUNY Nursing Simulation Fellowship.

The SUNY Nursing Simulation Fellowship was developed based on recommendations from the SUNY Future of Health Care Workforce Task Force, a group established to address the critical healthcare workforce shortage and the Governor’s goal of increasing healthcare workers in NY by 20%. Additionally, the fellowship stems from NYS legislation in May 2023 permitting nursing students to complete up to one-third of their clinical training through high-quality simulation experiences. As part of this initiative, Holly will provide leadership within the Nursing Department to help her fellow faculty colleagues develop and maximize simulation activities within the Nursing program. Throughout the fellowship, Professor Farwell will be working with the other fellows to become certified in healthcare simulation, develop simulations, and establish a SUNY Simulation Shared Resource Library, a simulation resource library for all SUNY nursing programs.

In addition to her work as an Assistant Professor, Holly, a previous graduate of SUNY Broome Community College, also works as an ICU Educator at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital. As part of her work there, she developed and implemented a neuro-critical care simulation and presented her work with her colleagues at the National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition in Denver, Colorado this past year. At SUNY Broome, Holly has dedicated time to the development of simulation activities within the Nursing program to enhance student engagement and the achievement of program learning outcomes. Supported through Perkins and SUNY High Needs Nursing grants, and College support, Holly has created innovative simulations tailored to essential nursing concepts with high-risk medical scenarios which have been implemented within the Nursing curriculum, helping the program to achieve its goal of providing simulation activities throughout the program.

We are incredibly proud of the work Holly has done so far within simulation education, and are proud that she was selected to be among this inaugural cohort. We can’t wait to see what she does next!
