IEEE Club | Watson Combat Robotics League Tournament 2025

Another Tournament win for the SUNY Broome IEEE Club where we dominated at Binghamton University’s Watson Combat Robotics League Tournament. The SUNY Broome Combat Robotics Team, composed of dedicated IEEE club members, showcased their engineering prowess in this November’s competition. The team had three entries for the 3D printed robot competition: Team Just in Time, Team Cache 22, and Team Rust in Peace, demonstrating their technical diversity and innovation.
Our robots competed across multiple rounds, showcasing the team’s ability to design and adapt different combat strategies. Team Just in Time dominated the tournament with a perfect undefeated run through the Winners Bracket to take the grand prize. Team Cache 22 demonstrated remarkable resilience, making a strong comeback through the Losers Bracket after an early setback, ultimately advancing to the Finals and taking second place. The intense schedule tested not only our robots’ durability, but also the team’s ability to perform under pressure and adapt strategies in real-time. This achievement builds on our strong history in the competition, adding to our collection of accolades from previous years.
The team’s success demonstrates the strength of SUNY Broome’s engineering programs (Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, and Engineering Science) and the dedication of our IEEE club members to excellence in robotics design and competition.
Congratulations to professor Gary DiGiacomo, Justin Ondrako (Team Just in Time – Tournament Champion), Nicholas Bilotta, Ty French, Marko Boyko, Francis Peret (Team Cache 22 – Second Place), Colin Bradbury, Jacob Quail, Logan Yaddow (Team Rust in Peace), and the entire SUNY Broome IEEE Robotics team.
This Spring semester we will be working on the design and build of some new combat robots for the National Robotics League “ Rage in the Cage” robot competition in April where we will be competing in the 15 pound and the 3 pound robot classes. We will also be working on the electric car projects and preparing for the Toyota Green Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International raceway. SUNY Broome’s IEEE Club is open to anyone that is interested, meetings are Thursdays in the Applied Technology Building, sign up and check Swarm for more details. Join us this Spring semester!
