Next week is the 10th anniversary of 24 Hours of Giving on Dec. 3, 2024! In honor of this vital effort to help students afford their education, the SUNY Broome Foundation is pleased to continue with a few more stories of 2024 scholarship winners.
Tazrian Tazrian, an international student from Bangladesh, thought it was a dream come true when she got her visa to study in the USA. She enjoys drawing and painting as a hobby and plans to become a computer engineer.

She noted, “This scholarship award is important because it frees me from financial stress, so I can focus on my studies instead of worrying about how I will pay my fees.”

Alison loves dogs — especially her two Great Danes — hiking and adventure. She returned to college to study to become a law enforcement officer. She’s very grateful for her scholarship, which will help her pursue her dream career.

Jori Jori, a first-generation student, said to her donors, “As an aspiring engineer… I am dedicated to using my skills and knowledge to engineer a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future, where technology and nature can aid one another. Your investment in my education is not only helping me achieve my dreams but also shaping the future of engineering for the better.”

May 2024 Scholarship Awardee Ahmet Ahmet immigrated from Turkey at 16 years old. Though he faced initial challenges and struggles in learning the language, he dedicated himself to improving his English and excelling academically at his high school. A STEM major, he told his donors, “My goal in the future is to use artificial intelligence and my software knowledge to establish a system that will regularly collect renewable energy by analyzing it and distributing it to homes, thereby beginning a new energy transformation. That’s why I want to apply for this scholarship, receive this training, and attend this school. The education I will gain is very valuable in my life.”
