Last week, the BCC Foundation shared part one of our story of how private support makes a difference in the lives of SUNY Broome students. In honor of the 7th Annual 24 Hours of Giving on Nov. 30, we continue with a few more stories from the students who received scholarships this year.

Kolton gives a thumbs up as he holds a sign with the words "Thank you" on it.

Kolton plans to transfer to Penn State for a degree in mechanical engineering after graduation. His dream is to become part of a Formula One Racing Team.

Kolton said in a letter to his donors, “Your assistance is greatly appreciated and will help towards books and other costs associated with my classes at SUNY Broome.”

Jacqueline wears a SUNY Broome sweatshirt and holds a sign that says, " Thank you so much!"

Jacqueline said, “For a long time, I was under the impression that I would never be able to attend college because I didn’t know how I could afford it. I am so happy that I finally pushed through that fear because here I am. Your generosity is helping me achieve my goals.”

Jacqueline graduated this spring and intended to transfer on to pursue her dream of becoming an elementary school teacher.

Jeidimarie grins with her "Thank You" sign.

Jeidimarie moved to the United States four years ago after a catastrophic hurricane in Puerto Rico.

She is a high-achieving student and says, “This award means a lot to me because not only will it help me financially, but it will help me to achieve a dream and my future.”

Gabrielle smiles and holds up a thank you sign.

Gabrielle, a 2021 graduate in the medical assisting program, began her career as a medical office assistant this spring. “I promise to continue to dedicate myself to this profession and cherish the trust that has been bestowed upon me,” Gabrielle noted.

She told the donors of her scholarship, “Thank you for being a vital part of my journey to my dream job. I can’t thank you enough!”

Dani grins with her Thank You sign.

An engineering science major, Dani has always been an aircraft aficionado — especially of airplanes from World War I and II.

She told her donors, “Getting rewarded for my academic achievements also gives me another level of confidence in my ability to succeed at SUNY Broome. Thank you so much for your generosity. It makes a huge difference in many students’ lives, including my own.”

The BCC Foundation is grateful for the efforts of the 2021 scholarship recipients to share their stories, talk about how scholarships helped them, and thank their donors. You can find the complete list of 2021 scholarship recipients here.
