SUNY Broome is pleased to announce that Johanna Pilny and Sasha Asinovsky, both Engineering Science students, have been honored with the 2026 Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. The Chancellor’s Award is the State University of New York (SUNY) system’s highest student honor, recognizing individuals for their outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to campus and community service.

Johanna Pilny

Johanna Pilny, an Endicott native, and an Engineering Science student, has set her sights on a future in mechanical engineering. She plans to pursue a career as a professor of engineering, inspired by her research experience at Binghamton University, where she discovered a passion for science communication.

Pilny is highly engaged on campus, serving as a tutor in the Learning Assistance Department, where she provides STEM tutoring and works in the Math Lab. She also serves as a supplemental instructor for Physics I, supporting fellow students in mastering course material. In addition, she is the co-president of the Engineering Club.

Sasha Asinovsky 

Engineering Science student Sasha Asinovsky, of Johnson City, spent the majority of his childhood in Brooklyn. Sasha Asinovsky plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at Binghamton University, with the goal of working full time at BAE Systems.

Asinovsky has demonstrated strong leadership and service throughout his time at SUNY Broome, currently serving as Student Trustee and the events coordinator for the Engineering Club. He is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges. In addition to his leadership roles, Asinovsky is committed to academic support initiatives on campus. He works as a physics tutor and serves as a supplemental instructor for Physics II, helping fellow students succeed in challenging coursework.

Congratulations to these two exceptional students on this well-deserved recognition of their accomplishments, both inside and outside of the classroom.
