This week we are highlighting Kennedy Brassfield for Black History Month. Kennedy is a Liberal Arts students from Queens, New York.

Why Broome?: “I wanted to try new things and I knew I wanted to go away from home. When my mom and I visited SUNY Broome, I liked the community space and the dorms. Also, my program didn’t limit me to which school to pick and SUNY Broome seemed to be the right fit for me.”

How can SUNY Broome be more diverse inside and outside the classroom?: “We need to build each other up and come together as a community. This could mean having more educational activities surrounding Black History Month on campus.”

Why do you think it’s important to celebrate Black History Month?: “Being a black woman in college, I feel I stand out to begin with. It’s important that people are educated on Black History Month and the difference and diversity of the cultures here on campus.”

What Black History Month activities on campus are you the most excited for?: “I am excited for the Black History Month trivia activity and the Black History Month gallery. I’m also looking forward to the Roots of Resistance speaker coming to discuss her book.”
