Lakeisha Temu came off the bench in the final quarter and buried a three-pointer from the right wing with 5 seconds left to send the game into overtime.

Broome lost a heartbreaker on Saturday in Watertown, falling 81-72 in OT to Jefferson before traveling to Troy on Sunday and the 59-44 loss to Hudson Valley.

Against the Cannoneers on Saturday the Hornets battled throughout the contest. The first quarter ended 15 all before the host team went on a run in the second frame and a ten point halftime lead, 36-26. The second half turned out to be a game of runs with Jefferson taking the first run, 18-2 only to be answered by a 19-2 run by Broome. Lakeisha Temu came off the bench in the final quarter and buried a three-pointer from the right wing with 5 seconds left to send the game into overtime. The first couple of minutes in OT went back and forth before the Cannoneers scored 9 unanswered points on the short-handed Hornets. Ava Eichler led Broome with 28 points to go with her 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Melissa Carden had a big night on the boards, grabbing 16 of them while scoring 11 points for a double-double. Gwendolyn Payne added 17 points. Brooke Ladd chipped in with 6 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks, and Dana Stepp added 11 assists, 6 rebounds and a couple of points. Temu hit the big three at the end of regulation and another one in OT to end with 6 points and 3 boards.

Sunday saw the Hornets take a two point lead after one but couldn’t hang on to the lead in the second and went into the half down 31-28. The second half was all Vikings, outscoring the Hornets 28-16. For the first time all year Broome did not see a player reach double digits in the scoring column. All six players who entered the game scored 5 or more points with Eichler and Payne putting up 9 apiece followed by Megan Carden with 8 points, Melissa Carden with 7 points, Ladd with 6 points and Stepp with 5 points. Ladd led Broome on the boards with 11 and Megan Carden added 8.

The Hornets return home this Wednesday for a 5:30 pm MSAC contest against Finger Lakes CC.
