SUNY Broome women's basketball team playing Finger Lakes CC
The women’s basketball team held off a game Finger Lakes CC squad Wednesday evening at home for a 54-50 win. The Hornets took the early lead after the first quarter, 14-8, before the Lakers Haley Anderson connected on the first two of her seven 3-ponters in the second quarter to close the gap going into halftime with the home team up, 27-22.

The third quarter was played evenly throughout with the bulk of the scoring done by Ava Eichler (9 points) and Anderson (8 points), each team scoring 14 points in the frame. Broome held off Finger Lakes down the stretch and never gave up the lead despite Anderson connecting on her last three 3-balls, the last of which made it a four point contest. Dana Stepp came up big in the fourth quarter, hitting two timely 3-balls, her only points in the contest.

Broome saw all eight players get involved in the scoring, led by Eichler’s 18 points. Megan Carden followed with 11 points, Stepp had 6 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Brooke Ladd led on the boards with 12 and Melissa Carden contributed with 11 rebounds and 5 points.

The Hornets are back in action this Saturday at 2:00 pm in the Baldwin Gymnasium for another MSAC matcup against Tompkins Cortland CC.
