Baseball with SUNY Broome Hornets against Tompkins Cortland CC

The Hornets split their doubleheader with Tompkins Cortland CC on Sunday, falling 5-4 late in the opener and coming out on top in game two. 10-0.

A late score by the Panthers ended the Hornets chances of coming out on top in game one. The game was tied at four in the top of the seventh when the Panthers picked up a run via a ground out, scoring the go-ahead run. Tompkins Cortland scored two runs in the first and one in the second before Broome managed to plate two runs in the third. The Panthers tacked on another run in the top of the fifth only to be tied up at 4-4 in the bottom half of the inning by the Hornets. Justin Fleming, Tyler Kopolow and Jaden Bongiorno each collected one hit to lead the Broome bats. Dillon Pook took the loss for Broome, the righty surrendered three runs on four hits over six innings, striking out two.

Game two of the twin bill was all Hornets, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back on their way to the 10-0 victory. Mitchell Taylor collected four hits in four at bats, he doubled in the first, singled in the third, singled in the fourth, and singled in the fifth. Jacob Garey also had a big day, putting up three hits in four at bats followed by Jack Symons and Kopolow with two hits each. Cody Lewis threw a gem for Broome, going the distance and allowing zero runs, zero walks and one hit in the game.

The Hornets will travel to Dryden on Thursday for a doubleheader against Tompkins Cortland with the first pitch scheduled to be thrown at 2:00 pm.
