The baseball team hosted a doubleheader with Erie and was on the road for a doubleheader with Jamestown last weekend, losing both.

The Hornets were at home on Saturday for two games against Erie CC. Broome dropped a 3-1 thriller in the first game of the two. The home team out-hit Erie 6-4 in the contest, but didn’t push a run across until the sixth inning. Daniel Crowley was 2-3 at the plate while Kobe Dela Cruz, Joseph Miller, and Trevor Dennison each added a hit. Thomas Contrata was 1-2 with a solo home run to left field, driving in the only Broome run of the game. Thomas Ricci pitched a gem over 6.0 innings, surrendering just three hits and no earned runs.

In game 2 on Saturday, offense was easier to come by for both teams in a 10-5 decision. A seven-run second inning was the decisive factor for Erie in the win, as the Hornets outscored the Kats 5-3 the rest of the way. Dennison was 2-3 in the game with two doubles and two RBIs. Nathan Moses was 2-3 as well with a double and two RBIs. Jacob McTigue and Ricci were 1-3 each. Nolan Hawkins, who got the start for the Hornets, did not allow an earned run over 2.0 innings. Joseph Chermak entered the game in relief and also did not allow an earned run over 5.0 innings while logging four strikeouts.

The Hornets turned around and headed to Jamestown CC on Sunday for two more games. They suffered a shutout in both games, 7-0 and 4-0, respectively. In game 1, Jamestown scored first in the first inning, and added three runs in the third and fourth. Miller, Dennison, McTigue, Dela Cruz, and Moses accounted for the five Broome hits in game 1. Peyton Farrell and Kaden Grayson combined for four strikeouts on the mound in the contest.

In game 2, Jamestown again scored in the first inning, and then scored one run in the second, fourth, and sixth innings. For Broome, Crowley tallied a hit while Moses continued his productive weekend with another hit and Contrata logged two hits. Tyler Sienko scattered six hits over an effective 5.0 innings, allowing just three runs and striking out four batters.

With the 0-4 stretch over Saturday and Sunday, the team falls to 5-16 on the season. This week is very busy for the Hornets, who will travel to Genesee CC on Tuesday, host Jamestown CC on Thursday, host Tompkins Cortland on Saturday, and then visit Tompkins Cortland on Sunday.
