SUNY Broome Baseball against Jefferson Community College

Broome came up short in their comeback bid against Jefferson CC on Thursday morning, falling 9-8 in game one, before taking game two in the afternoon, 13-11, in six innings.

Despite an 8-run deficit in the sixth inning, Broome rallied for 3 runs in the sixth and 4 more in the seventh before eventually falling 9-8 to Jefferson. Nate Bennett, Tanner Russin, Jamie McWherter and Tyler Kopolow all picked up RBIs to lead the rally. Mitchell Taylor took the loss for Broome, he lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out two. Kopolow went 2-4 at the plate to lead the Hornets in hits.

The Hornets clinched the lead in the fifth inning of game two to defeat the Cannoneers 13-11. With the game tied up at ten in the bottom of the fifth, Russin laced a triple on a 3-1 count, scoring three runs. Jaden Bongiorno drove in two runs in the first inning to get things started for the Hornets before Taylor, Kopolow and Bennett combined for five RBIs in the second frame. Taylor picked up his first home run of the season, a 380 foot shot to left-center. Dillon Pook earned the win, he surrendered three runs on three hits over one and one-third innings, striking out one. Cody Lewis threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen to record the last three outs in the rain-shortened contest and earn the save. Jack Symons started the game for Broome and went three and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits and striking out three.

Broome will travel to Syracuse this Sunday for a doubleheader against Onondaga CC, first pitch scheduled to be thrown at 1:00 pm.
