SUNY Broome baseball team played a doubleheader at Jefferson CC. Daniel Crowley at bat. Both of Crowley's hits were doubles

The baseball team played a doubleheader at Jefferson CC on Sunday and lost game 1 11-7, losing game 2 11-1.

The first game of the day was very closely contested and once tied at 7-7 before Jefferson scored the final 4 runs of the game to win. Broome was down 7-5 entering the top of the sixth inning, but scored 2 runs to tie the game at 7 all. A 4 run bottom of the sixth for the Cannoneers, however, gave them an 11-7 advantage going into the seventh inning and they closed it out there. In the doubleheader format, each game is 7 innings long.

The second game of the day was a bit more heavily in favor of the Cannoneers. The home team scored 5 runs in the first inning, and held Broome to just 1 run in the top of the third inning en route to an 11-1 victory. The game finished after six innings due to Jefferson’s 10-run advantage.

Joseph Miller started on the mound for the Hornets in game 1 and pitched well, allowing just 4 earned runs over 4.1 innings with 6 strikeouts and just 2 walks. Offensively, Broome received 2-4 efforts from Jack Symons, Daniel Crowley, and Jacob McTigue respectively. One of Symons’ two hits was a double, both of Crowley’s hits were doubles, and McTigue drove in two runs. Crowley added 2 stolen bases and so did Trevor Dennison.

In game 2, Crowley started on the rubber and allowed 8 runs, but only 3 of them earned, over the course of 4.0 innings. He walked 3 and struck out 5. At the plate, Crowley went 2-2 and added 3 stolen bases. Symons went 1-3 and Anthony Thatcher went 1-2.

The loss of the doubleheader drops Broome to 1-2 on the season. The Hornets will take the week to regroup before they host Corning CC in a doubleheader this Saturday beginning at Noon.
