SUNY Broome
Greetings from the SUNY Broome Admissions Office.

Lets talk about July and a summary of the goings-on in the world of admissions and recruitment.

Our office has been hard at work to close out the summer and the 2023 admissions cycle. This includes postcards going out saying that it’s not too late to get started at SUNY Broome as well as some spreads next week in local papers. The SUNY Broome application closes on August 14th.

We also have partnered with MarCom on another postcard campaign encouraging juniors and their families to visit the campus. We will continue a variety of different visit options this fall, including new information sessions on Fridays so students and families can get more information than the standard tour. If you are curious you will find our tour times on the campus impact calendar soon.

Health Sciences is launching a new pathway for students to enter the nursing program if they have an LPN or Paramedic certification. It is live on the SUNY Broome application, and you can direct prospective students to contact our office to learn more: Nursing Transition Course Pathway.

For international students, we are currently seeking a host family for an incoming German student this fall. If you or someone you know would be interested in hosting this student, or students in the future please contact Maria Basualdo at basualdomi@sunybroome.edu. Additional resources are provided to any host gracious enough to assist these students.

Last week many offices worked together to host Incubatorworks, a student group from Elmira to tour our campus and learn more about opportunities. Students especially enjoyed Dr. Kocieniewski’s discussion on events and opportunities taking place around campus. Thank you to Financial Aid, Student Activities, EOP, the Library, STEM, and the CEC for assisting us in creating a very interactive event.

SUNY Broome’s will be at next weekend’s Spiedie Fest. We will be discussing all that SUNY Broome has to offer with those attending, giving away some swag, and connecting with the community. We are especially excited to partner with the Engineering Technologies department to bring their electric vehicle to the event, and discuss all the unique opportunities like it on our campus. We hope to see you there!

Lastly, I’m happy to report that our office is even more fully staffed for the upcoming year. Odessa Quinonez and Janie Spears have recently joined our team and we are excited to work with them. As a recent graduate of Binghamton University, Odessa’s focus on DEI and skill working with those in need will help us grow partnerships on and off campus. Janie’s perspective as a parent of a successful SUNY Broome student and wealth of experience in customer service will assist in managing the day to day operations of our office. With these two joining the office I’ll be reaching out to departments so our team can learn from each of you before we set out this fall.

Have a great summer!
Owen Conklin, Director of Admissions
