What are Academic Momentum Outcomes?
In addition to early momentum metrics, Academic Momentum also includes longer-term outcomes that help us understand student success as related to retention and graduation. These include Fall-to-Fall Retention, 2-Year (100%) Graduation, and 3-Year (150%) Graduation.
What are the Academic Momentum Outcome Metrics?
- Fall-to-Fall Retention Rate – Percentage of New First-Time, Full-Time (FTFT) associate degree-seeking students retained within their first academic year from one Fall to the next.
- 2-Year (100%) Graduation Rate – Percentage of New FTFT associate degree-seeking students who earn a degree within two years of starting.
- 3-Year (150%) Graduation Rate – Percentage of New FTFT associate degree-seeking students who earn a degree within three years of starting.
Where Are We Now?
Current data provides a starting point for understanding SUNY Broome’s progress toward its Academic Momentum targets:
| Outcome Metric | Current (2025-2026) | SUNY Target Goal | Gap to Target |
| Fall-to-Fall Retention (Fall 2024) | 56.2% | 58.0% | -1.8 PP |
| 2-Year (100%) Graduation (Fall 2023) | 17.7% | 25.9% | -8.2 PP |
| 3-Year (150%) Graduation (Fall 2022) | 25.5% | 35.0% | -9.5 PP |
PP = percentage points, or the difference between two percentages.
These outcome metrics show where we currently stand against Academic Momentum targets.
