The SUNY Broome baseball team will compete in the Region III Championship tournament after finishing as a top-4 team in the East Division of the region this season.

The Hornets finished the regular season with an overall record of 18-23. The team posted a 9-9 record in Mid-State Athletic Conference games this season, and posted a 14-15 record in Region III play.

The 14-15 Region III record cemented the Hornets as the #4 team in the standings of the Region III East Division, qualifying them for the Regional Tournament. The top four teams from each division, East and West, qualify for the postseason.

The Hornets’ 18 wins this year are the most in a season since 2012, when the Hornets went 18-26 overall that year. Outside of the 2012 season, no SUNY Broome baseball team has produced more than 18 wins since 2001, when the team went 21-19 that year. The Hornets continue to elevate into a powerful Region III competitor under the leadership of second-year head coach Seve Kowalksi.

As the #4 seed in the East, SUNY Broome will match up with the #1 seed in the West, SUNY Niagara, for the Sub-Regional round of the tournament. SUNY Niagara will host the best-of-3 series as the higher seed. Game 1 of the series is currently slated for Saturday, May 10. Game 2, and game 3 if necessary, will be played on Sunday, May 11.

If the Hornets take the series from the Thunderwolves, they will advance to the Region III Final Four, which is scheduled for Thursday, May 15 – Saturday, May 17th.

SUNY Niagara is ranked as the #2 overall team in the latest NJCAA Division III Baseball National Rankings. The Thunderwolves hold a 44-0 record.
