Since the beginning of the college’s Foundation in 1965, we have endeavored to provide financial resources to students in need and to reward academic success. Thousands of SUNY Broome students have been financially supported by donors who desire to help them succeed. Past and current donors of the Foundation made it possible to grant $1,370,954 in merit and need-based scholarships and emergency grants for students during the Foundation’s fiscal year of 2020-2021.
As we look forward to our most important day of fundraising, the 7th Annual 24 Hours of Giving – which starts tomorrow – we’d like to share some additional stories of how donations invest in students and their futures.
Tosha, a mom of three, has worked full-time through college. She plans to become a Nurse Practitioner and work in the ER or NICU.
She says, “I am so truly grateful that you have chosen me to invest in… it is a great feeling knowing that there are other people out there who believe in me.
Faisal, a current Criminal Justice sophomore, plans on a career in law enforcement.
He noted that his scholarship lightened his financial burdens, telling his donors, “Your generosity has inspired me to help others and give back to the community. I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals just as you have helped me.”
Early childhood education major Haley plans to become a special education assistant teacher upon graduation.
She promised her donors, “I will work hard and eventually give back to others, both as a teacher and possibly fund a scholarship to future students like myself.”
Nathan, a military veteran who served for ten years and specialized in search and rescue, has returned to SUNY Broome for another degree and the education required to start his third career. He is a physical therapist assistant student.
Nathan said, “I plan to remain in the community and provide the utmost care to the people of the Southern Tier.”
Shantice is a single mom of two daughters. She plans on becoming a teacher in the future.
She says, “Being a teacher will allow me to give back all that I can to my community. We need teachers who care.”
