SUNY Broome President Kevin E. Drumm connected with young students from the Baltimore area as part of a national event called “The Presidents Meet the Students.”
The event was part of the IHE NOW “The Future of Higher Ed” conference in Baltimore. Sponsored by Inside Higher Ed, the three-day summit featured experts from every sector of higher education, as well as political and corporate leaders, discussing issues such as the impact of demographic and funding fluctuations, free speech and the education-to-career pipeline.
College and university presidents and chancellors had the opportunity to meet face-to-face with sixth- through eighth-graders from the Baltimore area. The students were from the University of Maryland – Baltimore County (UMBC)’s core partnership school, Lakeland Elementary/Middle, as well as the UMB CURE Scholars program, which prepares sixth- to 12th-grade students in West Baltimore for careers in STEM, cancer research and healthcare.
“I was thrilled for the opportunity to meet these inspiring young scholars, and talk to them about the importance of higher education. It’s never too early to think about college – whether you’re in Baltimore or here in Broome County!” Dr. Drumm reflected. “I deeply appreciated being asked by Inside Higher Ed to participate in this national event, and introduce new faces to SUNY Broome and all we offer.”
