Since the beginning of the college’s Foundation in 1965, we have endeavored to provide financial resources to students in need and to reward academic success. Thousands of SUNY Broome students have been financially supported by donors who desire to help them succeed. Past and current donors of the Foundation made it possible to grant over $1,548,500 to student support during the Foundation’s fiscal year of 2022-2023.

As we look forward to our most important day of fundraising, the 9th Annual 24 Hours of Giving, on Nov. 28, we’d like to share some additional stories of how donations invest in students and their futures.

JaylenAfter a mission trip to Paraguay and a global health trip to Ireland, Jaylen said, “Seeing families trying to survive with very little makes me realize how great the needs are in our world and gives me the drive to do something about it. I have always wanted to serve, and a nursing career will satisfy my desire to help.”

KarleeKarlee, a single mom of three, desires to show her children that it is possible to follow “their own dreams wherever it takes them.” She said, “My goal is to take what I have learned from my education and go out into the field of chemical dependency counseling and help others the way I was helped.”

LeviLevi loves sports and personal fitness. He has always wanted to be a chemist. “This [scholarship] award is important because it helps me save money and takes some financial stress off of me and my family.”

MaykaelaMaykaela, who loves soccer and aquatic life, hopes to keep learning about marine ecosystems and organisms. She notes, “I am very determined to finish my studies so that I can help my parents pay their bills, and I hope to help pay for my younger brother’s tuition in the future.”

The SUNY Broome Foundation is grateful for the efforts of the 2023 scholarship recipients to share their stories, talk about how scholarships helped them, and thank their donors. You can find the complete list of 2023 scholarship recipients here.
