SUNY Broome Salutes Women During Women’s History Month: March 2024
"Women’s History Month, observed annually each March since 1987, is a time to recognize the often-overlooked accomplishments of women in education, art, athletics, science, culture, government and society. The theme for Women’s History Month 2024 is “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.” We strive to lift up all women, and to especially honor those that have actively advocated to empower marginalized populations and foster inclusive and equitable spaces." February 22, 2024 During National Engineers Week 2024, SUNY Broome hosted its annual STEM Pathways Career Exploration Night for middle school students and their families. Said SUNY Broome Training, Education and Workforce Development Director Danielle Britton, “Middle school is the right time for students to begin weighing career options and considering what programs and courses may interest them in high school. For nearly twenty years, the Southern Tier Scholastic Science Fair (STSSF) has provided local elementary, middle, and high school students with the valuable opportunity to design, implement, and present an original research project. On Saturday, March 16 the STSSF, hosted at SUNY Broome, welcomed over sixty students from twelve schools to celebrate a day of science and exploration. A standing-room-only crowd of campus and community members flocked to the second floor of the Old Science Building on Thursday, March 22, 2024, to celebrate the official unveiling of the Hornet Hope Center, SUNY Broome’s on-campus food pantry and clothing closet. The Center is comprised of two designated, stigma-free spaces full of fresh and non-perishable food, personal care products, household items, and clothing for babies, children, and adults. On March 23, the IEEE Club, including Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Technology students, joined professor Gary DiGiacomo on a trip to Bloomsburg PA, to compete in the 11th annual National Robotics League “Rage in the Cage” competition. Over 100 middle and high school students from the Southern Tier descended on SUNY Broome’s Applied Technology Building armed with uniquely designed robots and a hunger to compete. Tuesday, April 9, 2024, marked the 13th Annual Robotics Competition, a collaborative event developed by the Eastern Southern Tier STEM HUB, SUNY Broome, Broome-Tioga BOCES, and regional school districts. For over four decades, Dr. Harold Trimm (CH ’02) has remained synonymous with chemistry at SUNY Broome. A champion of both the College and the universality of chemistry, Dr. Trimm has devoted his life to making science engaging and accessible for two generations of students. In addition to providing health science and STEM students with a comprehensive foundation in staple courses like general, organic, and biochemistry, Trimm has spent his career developing unique, chemistry-centered specialty courses for academic programs in every division at SUNY Broome.
