Many of you may already know that I have chosen to stay in my present position until a national search results in a new Chief Academic Officer. Although my immediate plans have changed, the recent events have offered me an opportunity to reflect on how fortunate I have been to choose education as my life’s work. To think, I get to work with a whole team of professionals whose mission in life is to assist others with their growth and attaining their dreams and aspirations.
Since returning to my Alma Mater to start my career and before the 6 years in my present position, I have held various positions at our college. These experiences have offered me a unique lens to view the teaching/learning process from different angles. The first position I held was as a counselor in the Counseling & Student Development Center and then as its Director. This was followed by the Dean of Academic Services and, from there, into the role of Acting Chief Academic Officer. During this time, I was continually teaching and ultimately made a decision to move full-time into the classroom for over 30 years. The common theme over all of these years…I get to work with colleagues and students who want to impact the world in positive ways. So, needing to change directions for the next year is not a difficult thing.
Thank you for your many heartfelt notes and comments over this past week and a half and I continue to look forward to working together to positively impact our community.
