I am pleased to announce the Faculty Technology Ambassadors that were selected for the Spring 2019 semester using our Performance Improvement funds. These two faculty will support our Student Success initiatives as full-time faculty experts in academic technology tools across campus. As we all know, faculty appreciate the insight a colleague can bring to these utilities and the benefits of using them. Please feel free to contact either Maria or Erin for their assistance in using Starfish, DegreeWorks, College Scheduler, Career Coach, Purple Briefcase, etc. Their contact information is included below.
Maria Montemagno: Maria is an Assistant Professor for the Hospitality Programs Department. She started in August 2013, so this is her sixth year at SUNY Broome.
“I am excited to share with everyone the positive impact technology has played on student success. Every day I work with students in numerous ways to help them create a successful and positive path both educational and professional. SUNY Broome has some amazing tools that help faculty create such a path. Degree Works, Starfish, Blackboard and most importantly, MyCollege, are just a few examples of the tools that can be used daily to have a positive impact on student life.”
Maria is located in SB 216, and can be reached at email@example.com or x5694.
Erin Frye: Erin is an Assistant Professor and Fast Forward Coordinator for the Business Department. She joined the campus full-time in 2015, after teaching as an adjunct instructor since 2003. She is the adviser to the Business Club and serves on the Starfish Advisory Council, Distance Learning Steering Committee, and Ethics Conference Committee.
“I believe that the technology tools we have on campus provide a way to facilitate communication with our students, build strong relationships with them, and encourage them to achieve their academic and career goals. I utilize several campus technologies in my teaching and advising roles. I supplement all my face-to-face classes with Blackboard (in addition to teaching online), and utilize Starfish for tracking and scheduling needs. It is wonderful when a Starfish Flag or Kudos provides a student the motivation and encouragement they need to succeed in their class. When advising students I encourage them to use DegreeWorks and Schedule Planner to more effectively choose and arrange their courses.”
Erin is located in BB 216B, and can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or x5301.
